0052 · Hosting Tycoon joins Project Silicon

I have stopped work on Hosting Tycoon as a game of its own. Part of it is going into Project Silicon instead.

Why

Project Silicon has started moving fast, and it is much wider in scope than Hosting Tycoon. Wide enough that a good part of what Hosting Tycoon was about fits inside it.

Making both side by side would mean building some of the same things twice. So instead of releasing Hosting Tycoon on its own, the parts of it that work go into Silicon, rebuilt in a more modern way. Not all of it moves, and what does move will not look the way it did in the earlier posts.

What changes

• Hosting Tycoon no longer has a page here or a release window. Its old address leads to Project Silicon now.
• The early 2027 estimate goes with it. Project Silicon has no date yet, and I would rather give none than one I cannot keep.
• The earlier Hosting Tycoon posts stay in the devlog, with a note at the top that points here. They are a record of the work, and some of that work carries over.

What comes next

What Project Silicon is stays under wraps for a little longer. A devlog about Silicon itself is coming soon.

Thank you to everyone who followed Hosting Tycoon. Some of what you saw there, you will see again in Silicon.
